Welcome to the Class of Project 2025!
A satirical webcomic that hits a little too close to home(room)
I hereby present my first original Substack comic – one which hasn’t been published anywhere else beforehand! Big thanks to both my paid and free subscribers who have watched me grow on this platform over the past few months.
Fans of editorial cartoons will already be aware of what happened with
and The Washington Post, but since I have a pretty broad readership, I’m going to direct you to her post here. Worth reading.I’m in a different situation because I’m not a regular columnist. I pitch cartoons of varying lengths and topics to diverse places. I lean into politics occasionally, but I’m almost always making social commentary. I intended to use Substack for publishing comics I had trouble placing elsewhere, simply because I love my little babies and want to see them fly. Substack feels like it’s also becoming a safe space for dissenting opinions, so I’m doubly glad that I set up a page here.
Inspiration
Welcome to the Class of Project 2025! was originally written in November, not long after I listened to this episode of Fresh Air.
I kept thinking about how journalists must feel worried and wondered if they would start checking their underpants for signs of tampering, because of the way that Navalny was poisoned. And then my imagination took over.
I have a new slogan for us here. It’s not as grand as Democracy Dies in Darkness but hopefully quite suitable: Pomposity Deflates with Laughter.
About six years ago when I was about to leave the UK, where I’d lived for four years and some change, to return to the US,y husband and I were joking about looking forward to getting our government issued guns upon our return. My British former colleague was reasonably sure we were kidding but also thought it plausible. It was simultaneously hilarious and sad all at once.
Well done! This is great…funny and grim.
